CDC’s science based program designed for people with prediabetes
The Prevent T2 Lifestyle Change Program is a designed for people with prediabetes or at high risk for type 2 diabetes. It has goals and activities that are structured to expand in the course of a year.
The main goal of Prevent T2 is to get participants to accomplish moderate weight loss by performing changes on eating habits and movement. The focus is to eat well and be active.
The first six months can be intense since habit changes can take time to become a routine, but these six months are foundational. After you reach those goals, the following six months are more about maintenance and working on additional areas as needed.
The goals for the participants of the program for the first six months are to:
1. Lose at least 5 to 7 percent of their starting weight
2. Get at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week, at a moderate pace or more
Then after mastering that physical activity and losing some weight, the goals for the following six months are to:
1. Keep off the weight they have lost
2. Keep working toward their goal weight, if they haven’t reached it
3. Lose more weight if they wish
4. Keep getting at least 150 minutes of activity each week
